“But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth” (Exodus 9:16).
There is a lot of pressure to be someone we are not. The way we see it, if we are not making a substantial amount of money then we are failing. But if we are walking in our purpose, the true purpose that God created us for, money will follow.
We lose ourselves in the pursuit of a paycheck. I get it, we have responsibilities and choosing to follow our heart will not keep the bill collectors from calling. But there is something special in discovering the divine reason for your existence and choosing to walk in it. I believe that God placed gifts in your spirit that are just waiting to explode onto this world and make an impact.
We sell ourselves short. We see others living in their purpose and think, “I can’t do that. I have kids to raise. I am not disciplined. I do not have a college degree. I’m too old, too young.” The truth is whatever is in you has to come out. God put it in you not to keep to yourself but to change the world we live in. Yes, that’s right, the world will be changed by what you have to offer.
I am always inspired by BET’s annual Black Girls Rock! celebration that honors black women and girls who are using their God-given gifts to accomplish amazing feats. Last night playwright/actress Danai Gurira spoke the inspiring words:
It can get tough out there, it can get downright ugly and I have walked the path or some version of it but know that you are designed for greatness and you have a resilience that is in DNA…whether you want it or not and you are what the world is waiting for whether the world acknowledges that or not. Step into your uniqueness, protect it, nurture it, it is precious. No one can do what you can do or contribute what you are destined and designed to contribute.
So choose today to break down the layers of pressure to settle for complacency. Choose today to walk in your purpose. The world is waiting on you. Seek God for the steps to take. If you have to spend a few extra hours every night composing a business plan, going out into the streets to feed the homeless, starting a blog to tell your story, do not hesitate. Do not let the duties of life keep you from your duty to the Kingdom.
