Good Music: Power Playlist

I got a request to put together a playlist of gospel music that I love to rock out to. I enjoy exploring new sounds, especially within Christian and inspirational genres. Young people can easily argue that gospel music does not cater to their modern earbuds. However, with new artists and even some older, generating a new sound with positive lyrics, we all can find something to sing along to.

Jonathan McReynolds is a 26-year-old artist from Chicago, IL who has been taking the airwaves by storm with songs such as “Pressure,” “Gotta Have You,” and “No Gray.” He has a neo-soul vibe performing many acoustic sets accompanied by his guitar. He was joined by soul singer India Arie in an amazing performance for the 2014 Celebration of Gospel.

Israel Houghton is one of the most prominent worship leaders of our time. He has traveled the world uniting all cultures with the gift of music. Israel serves as the worship leader at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, TX and has won numerous Grammy’s. I have to say that his Pandora station is one of my faves.

Anthony Evans is an amazing vocalist who received his big break from Season 2 of NBC’s The Voice. Relocating from Dallas to LA was a challenge to Evans’ music as he had to learn how to create a message that resonated with those outside the church’s four walls. He has successfully adapted as heard in his latest project.

Alexis Spight is a ball of light; just look at her fire-engine-red hair for proof. She was the runner up in Season 5 of BET’s Sunday Best. Her sound is somewhat similar to the next artist I have featured with upbeat tempos and strong lyrics.

What can I say about Ms. Kierra “KiKi” Sheard? I have loved her music since she was featured on her mother’s album at nine-years-old. Speaking of her famous family, Kierra is the offspring of the famous Clark Sisters, her mother being Karen Clark Sheard and her grandmother Mattie Moss Clark. KiKi is a powerhouse young vocalist with a unique style.

These are just a few of the dynamic artists that are in my power playlist. Who are your favorite inspirational artists? Share in the comment section below!!!
