Yunnnggggg!!!!! I just had a conversation with friends the other day about the art of music videos and what they used to mean to us music lovers. Big Sean has heard our cry and answered! Dropping back-to-back-to-back videos in a two week span, the 27-year-old Detroit-bred rapper now brings us the visual to “Play No Games” featuring Chris Brown and Ty Dolla $ign. I think Sean is gearing up for the big screen because he has become quite the actor in his last few videos, now channeling his inner Martin Lawrence.
Twitter fans have been reigning this Martin adaptation “Rap Video of the Year” and I might have to give it to him just on creativity alone. Big Sean plays the role of Martin, Chris is Cole, and the real Bruh Man from the 5th floor (Reginald Ballard) plays his famous character. The crew reenacts the opening credits, the fight party episode where Martin misses the fight and kicks everybody ouuttt (in my Martin voice), and the crime scene when Martin interrogates Gina, Pam, Tommy, and Cole regarding his missing Walkman.
The video is so full of color like the 90’s sitcom and is a perfect fit considering the show was based in the D, Big Sean’s hometown. The song samples Guy’s “Piece of My Love” which musically represents the Martin era. There’s even a special surprise at the end of the video. The only thing missing IMO is the fake Rottweiler Martin used to “intimidate” his friends during his “investigation.”
