The gorgeous and talented Sanaa Lathan has signed up to star in and produce the movie adaptation of black classic novel Flyy Girl. Twenty-two years ago New York Times best-selling author Omar Tyree released the Flyy Girl trilogy and it has since become a cult classic in the black community.
Sanaa will play the protagonist Tracy Ellison, a sassy goal-driven woman overtaken by the pursuit of money and sex. She will be working alongside Codeblack Films (Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain) and screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher to recreate this role on the big screen.
“I’m pleased to executive produce and star in Lionsgate and Codeblack’s incredible adaptation of Omar Tyree’s iconic Flyy Girl trilogy. So many people have grown up on this series and I’m looking forward to bringing Tracy Ellison’s story to life through film. It’s my hope to continue to help bring diverse stories to the big screen.”
Also on board as producer is Effie Brown of Dear White People. Tyree is also very excited to see his brainchild make its mark in Hollywood.
“I couldn’t be happier to embark on this journey with Codeblack Films and Global Renaissance Entertainment Group. I have every confidence that my brand has found the perfect home with one of the most effective machines in Hollywood.”
Sanaa is a part of the era of sophisticated beauties with the likes of Nia Long, Gabrielle Union, Monica Calhoun and so on starring in legendary films like Brown Sugar, The Best Man, and Love & Basketball. We are so excited to see her on this new project.
