9 Killed in Charleston, SC Shooting [Updated]


And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Nine people were shot Wednesday night in a shooting at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC. Eight died inside the church on 110 Calhoun St. and a ninth victim later at a nearby hospital. This is being considered a hate crime per Police Chief Gregory Mullen. A bomb threat shortly followed the shooting.

The suspect is a 21-year-old white male of slender build wearing a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and clean shaven. He has yet to be found and is considered armed and dangerous.

Our prayers for peace and consolation in a time of sadness, disaster, and frustration are with the loved ones of those whose lives were innocently taken. I cannot fathom what would lead any person to such acts but an inexplicable demon dwelling within. Let’s pray to conquer that demon.

UPDATE: Charleston Police Chief Greg Mullen said the suspect Dylann Storm Roof was arrested during a traffic stop at approximately 11:15 a.m. Thursday morning, about 14 hours after the massacre in Charleston. According to Roof’s Facebook page, he lives in Columbia, SC and attended White Knoll High School in Lexington. Roof was arrested in April for trespassing per public records.
