Did we expect any differently? Music consumers have been anticipating Watch the Throne since the news of the Jay-Z and Kanye West callabo. So it’s no surprise that the album has broken the iTunes record for first week sales with a whopping 290,000 downloads as of Sunday, August 14th, just six days after its August 8th digital release.
The album became available in stores on Friday, August 12th. Jigga and Ye beat out Coldplay who sold 282,000 downloads of their 2008 iTunes release of Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends.
It’s no doubt that these two are in their prime–Jay-Z now 22 years in the game and still on top, and Kanye, with 15 years in the music biz, following right behind him!
