I missed the BET Awards the first go round because I was waiting on a plane back to Atlanta that was delayed FOUR times due to Atlanta’s ever-on-time thunderstorms. But best believe I DVR’ed and caught that jawn when I got to my apartment.
However, Twitter kept me informed all night. What caught my attention was Twitterers’ gravitation towards the Music Matters performer Mali Music. So I YouTubed him and instantly fell in love with his sound.
Jamaal “Mali Music” Pollard is a Savannah-based singer, songwriter, and producer. He plays acoustic guitar and electric bass. His style is inspired by Bilal and D’Angelo and is definitely unique to the gospel genre.
In 2006, Jamaal founded Mali Music Note Production. In 2008, under the management of OvaFlo Entertainment, he helped to form local independent label, SoundWalk Music Group and released his debut album “The 2ECOND COMING.”
In addition to outstanding vocals, Mali Music is an accomplished producer and actor. Mali Music’s performance was cut short tonight as the Music Matters performers usually are (it’s more of an introduction to great new artists—and Mali Music is in great company following the likes of Marsha Ambrosius, Wale, and J.Cole) so check out his acoustic version of Avaylable below.
